Note from the Dean
Greetings, Wayne State University graduate students! With the financial markets in turmoil and an historic presidential election in progress, I hope that you are still able to focus on your graduate studies and that you are having a productive semester.
Recognizing the needs of graduate students in the area of scholarly writing, the Graduate School is engaged in a new initiative to provide enhanced writing resources for graduate students. In addition to launching the Graduate Writing Resources webpage, we have focused this issue of the Graduate School newsletter on the challenges graduate students face when they are engaged in scholarly communication-whether for a laboratory report, a seminar paper, or a dissertation.
In this issue, we look at the dos and don'ts of scholarly writing and how this affects graduate students' ability to find and establish an academic voice in their writing. You will find additional information and tips to help you write your graduate essays along with guides on publishing your work in scholarly journals. Make sure you check out the Resource Corner for more helpful information.
If you have any comments or are interested in writing an article for the newsletter, please contact the graduate school at gradschool@wayne.edu.
Once again, I wish you a productive and successful semester,
Steven O. Salley Interim Associate Provost and Dean
